Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly universal I used the lifestraw universal with my hydroflask wide mouth. It worked wonderfully. It fit securely with no leaking. The water that came from the bottle was awesome! I used it at a hotel and drank from the tap, the water tasted much better coming from the bottle than the tap into a glass. The only downside is that I can see some situations where I would want to use ice while traveling, since the hydroflask can keep ice all day, but there is not enough room to add ice with the straw in place. I tried, many ways but it simply can't work with this design. Overall I think I will use this alot while travelling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BikePacking here I come! At first I was completely disappointed with this. I already have several ways to filter water and this didn't seem like it would fit any of my bottles. Totally wrong! When I discovered that it fit my bike bottles I was thrilled because its so small and easy to fit in my pack for when I'm not using it, but being able to stop and fill up my water when I'm on the trail is clutch, I'm constantly trying to spare all the water I can, now I can drink freely on my long rides! I also love that it fits my new bottle that came in the Obsidian-that's some nice Cairn coordination!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's About Time! I was so happy to receive this. I have purchased many of the LifeStraws (straw) for friends and family, but not for myself. I seem to collect water purifiers and already had SteriPENs, MSR MiniWorks, the original Katadyn and the Katadyn Hiker Pro and 2 of the bottles w/filters. I like the versatility of the LifeStraw Universal. It's about time! Like all filter type bottles, you have to pull hard on it to get it going, but that's okay . It beats pumping water. It is very portable and I can use it on my go-to Nalgenes . Great invention!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed my mind At first I was skeptical of LifeStraw usefulness. However, after using it with wifey on our training hikes for upcoming backpacking season, I'll always carry LifeStraw on hikes when there will be water access. The LifeStraw saves us a few pounds of water weight, super easy & easy to use and we are always well hydrated. Have been pondering if we could get away with individual LifeStraws as our water filter on backpacking trips. Have recommended this to a long distance cyclist friend after he asked my opinion on LifeStraw.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware - Unfiltered Water possible Update: The LifeStraw is great addition to my backpack. However there is one fatal flaw. We discovered this weekend that one needs to be careful to insure the LifeStraw is still connected to the water bottle lid. During hiking it easily disconnects from the lid, thus you will be drinking unfiltered water. If you hear rattling in the water bottle, the LifeStraw has disconnected. Always check before drinking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lifestraw Universal A great additional way to use the Lifestraw. The original Lifestraw is awesome, but doesn't mate to a container while the Lifestraw Go does, but involves purchasing a container when we all probably have plenty of those already. This approach also allows use of the Lifestraw with different bottle types. Very flexible in use and easy to keep all parts together in the convenient storage bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water Filter Swap Outs These attachments to act as a lifestraw are very nice. It actually fits on some other bottles I have as well, so it doesn't have to be exactly the same brand. It comes with multiple tops too, just in case you have different sized bottles. Very convenient and nice to use on long hikes or overnight trips, instead of bringing bladders or other water filtration systems that can be bulky.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like the lifestraw brand and I like that it came with multiple bottle attachements, but the filter connection to the bottle is not very secure. I only tested it out with tap water from home, but when as I carried the bottle with me hiking this weekend, the filter would detach from the nozzle. If I were worried about the water source I think that would be a pretty big problem.

With the lifestraw universal , so you sip on the spout on the top to get the water out or is it a squeeze type of action where it squirts out? The spout looks different from your lifestraw bottle that I have already.

Asked by: Lindatravels
The Universal kit is an adapter that attaches to your favorite bottle. There is no squeezing required.

It's not possible to use my own lid and use the lifestraw in place of a regular straw, is it?

The filter in the Universal kit is only compatible with our LifeStraw lids (Universal and Go Stage Two). Additionally, the regular LifeStraw cannot be used in place of the filter in this kit.

Does this filter Heavy Metals like lead and mercury?

Asked by: Colby77
The LifeStraw Universal does not remove heavy metals, but reduces chlorine, herbicides and pesticides in addition to bacteria, parasites and microplastics. The LifeStraw Flex and LifeStraw Play filters reduce heavy metals like lead and mercury.
