Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unsure of longevity it promises The replacement filter is fine. But I had to buy it to replace a filter that I only used a few months. I last used my previous filter in September/October 2018 (originally started using on hikes in Spring 2018). Then went to use it for the first time on Easter weekend 2019 and could get zero water through the filter after trying for an extended period of time. I’m not sure if not using it for 6 months caused it to dry out and become ineffective. But I definitely had not using the previous filter for the length or time and number of gallons it claims to last for. I like this product and what the company does, just hope the filters are quality as they are pricey to replace.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Follow Instructions for Best Filter on the Market I'm very particular about my gear, especially the essentials like water filtration. If you follow the instructions there is no better water filter system out there, whether you use the straw or the Bottle. I carry both and replace the filters every year or so, even though they could probably go longer. Also, you can't ignore them for a year and then expect them to work like new

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product I bought this item 6 months ago and have enjoyed using it. Living on a ship out on the ocean randomly, this item helps being able to drink the water a lot of times. I've used this item every day, and have recommended it to every person I work with. My only issue is that my bottle leaks at the top some times and haven't found any reason why.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 6 months later I bought this 6 months ago and found it to work very well for the first several months. After that it started leaking and developed an air leak even after changing out both filters which makes it difficult to use. It has to sit upright or will leak out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bad taste with replacement filter...any ideas why? I bought a LifeStraw Go at REI in the summer and also a replacement filter with it. I really like it - but eventually the original LifeStraw filter needed replacing. I did that and inserted the replacement filter but it does taste very strange, sort of like plastic/chemical taste... I rinsed and soaked it in water for hours also, but it still has that off taste which makes me not event want to drink water with it. Is this normal? Is there anything else I need to do before using?

How long do you have to replace the filters ?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello! For our 2-stage filter that is compatible with our LifeStraw Go Bottle and our LifeStraw Universal, you will need to change the activated carbon filter every 26 gallons or 2-3 months from their first use. For the larger microfilter itself, it will last you up to 1,000 gallons of water before it becomes clogged and will need to be replaced.

my lifestraw won't let any water come through. no matter how hard i suck it will never come out.

Asked by: anay12427
Is it new? May want to contact lifestraw to replace it if it's new? I'm guessing you let the water sit for a couple minutes as well. I know I struggled with my new one after the 20th time i used it. So i just bought two new ones. They worked much better. As far as the product is, I used it a lot in Cambodia. Made it easy for me to get water. Granted they have bottled water everywhere and beer. But I still like having it nearby. And I use it when I go camping and caving around washington.

I have a lifestraw that has "plugged up" and won't allow me to drink from it; I know I haven't even drunk 50 liters of water through it, maybe 20 liters tops. Could you help me?

Asked by: scouter888
Try blowing into the straw which will empty the water from the straw. Check to be sure all parts are secured snugly. Refill, screw top on evenly and tight. Lift up mouth piece all the way and try again. If this does not work you need a new filter.

Is there a way to "unplug" a lifestrpaw so it works again?

Asked by: scouter888
No you throw it away and put new straw in bottle but they last a long time

Why does my replacement filter does fit my universal caps as well as the one they came with? Why is it slightly formed differently at the top (I know that might be the reason)?
