LifeStraw Mission

How our products work

Your Purchase Has Impact

Through our global Give Back Program, over 4 million children have received a year of safe water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go-to in developing countries! I've been using my LifeStraw Mission for almost two years now and couldn't be happier. I'm an NGO photographer and my work often requires me to travel in developing countries where water is unsafe to drink and the plastic waste is an enormous problem. I've used my Mission in India, Zambia, and Ghana, as well as a handful of other places and have never had any issues with it. My coworkers often ask to use it when they are traveling with me, too. It's easy to use, ultra light and packable, and I've put my health in its hands many times with confidence. I love recommending it to others in my field, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for backup water for the family We had a recent situation where our city's water treatment plant was not able to keep up with the floods and increased turbidity in the water lead to a no-drink warning. Perfect scenario for this system, as it will filter out parasites and viruses and anything that may have slipped through the treatment plant. It is important to know what this system will and will not do. It will not filter out chemicals, but it will remove parasites, viruses, and things that will make you immediately sick. As long as you know that the upstream source of water has not been contaminated with chemicals, then this will filter and make it safe to drink. Love having this as a backup safety net for the entire family.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great with one flaw i am annoyed by The tensioning saystem for height is cumbersome and annoying with a full bag of heavy water above gead. I measured empty, but because I had to adjust after the weighted hang, the process was slow. Also, the drip for clean is short, i can imagine that there may be some legal reason for this as because people can screw up alot of easy things, given the chance, but that is a difficulty as well" especially when filling containers of different heights. That said, i drank svuzzy water from a scank pond in low country last week and I'm not crapping blood...good sign. Just kidding, but yes, I have had no health issues with my first 2 uses.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gets the job done, but slowly. I got LifeStraw Mission to use on multiple day camping trips where I would have access to lakes or rivers. It's concept is easy, but this filter is not as intuitive as others. Anyone using it should first understand the two valves and method to flush. The filter does claim to have a long lifespan which is one of the best in its category. The included bag neatly packages everything for travel when not in use but it is not a filter I would take on multiple day hikes due to its overall size and weight. Hanging it in camp will require a high position due to it's tube length. The biggest downside of the filter is that it is slower than most gravity based versions. You're likely not in a hurry camping, but you will be standing a while to fill a container.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Features I received this item for my my son and husband to try out while out adventuring. This product can hold upto 12 Liters of water plus has the filtration straw to filter out any harmful bacteria, viruses, and protozoa from the water. It does also come with the hook to hang it from a tree branch or around your shoulder. This amazing product also comes with a bag so you can roll it up after use and put in the storage back to place in a backpack or away. This product is wonderful for summer adventures with the heat and staying hydrated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I keep this mission in the truck for emergency. And use it for car camping. Had to reply on it for 2 days once in dought conditions filtering water from a cattle dam. Crystal clear water. Taste not so good but it did exactly what it's designed to do. Kept 5 guys hydrated when we ran out of tap water. Thanks allot lifestraw!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We have used this for years while traveling. We bought this years ago when we were first going to Nicaragua. We have used it for the last 4ish years on all our trips. (Nica, Mexico, Costa Rica, Taiwan, and Canada.) While we primarily use it for drinking water while overseas (4 to 6 months of the year) we also use it in the airports (a bottle of water can cost $8USD in some airports) We are a family of 4. We also use it while traveling, hiking and camping at home (Canada.) We have always tried to use "blue" water and the cleanest water we can find. But it's not always real clean. As far as we know we have never gotten sick from drinking the water through this thing. We also still have the same one we originally purchased. I would recc this one more then the normal straw, as this one does Viruses as well. We hang this thing on trees, doors, cars, bars, hooks, and pretty much anywhere you can think of. Even inside our car to make water while traveling.

This is a great product for camping or if you're in the military to use while you're on missions. This is easy to carry & hangs from anywhere. Do you guys produce anything that filters everything?

Asked by: Dain
They don’t have any desalination products and their filters are extremely efficient at taking care of particles keeping it down to a minuscule minimum of anything that could pass throughZ

What is the difference between the filtration of Lifestraw Family and this product, Lifestraw Mission? Lifestraw Family is not rated for removal of silt or cloudiness, but the Mission is. But filter apparatus appears to be the same?

Asked by: Jared F
The Family & Mission products have the same filter, lifetime, and flow rate. The main difference would be the material and durability of both. The Family is a BPA free plastic bucket, and the Mission comes in two versions, either a 5L or 12L gravity bag. This bag is made of durable, TPU laminated nylon. Because this is a gravity bag, it can be folded when not in use. If you have other questions, please feel free to email us at info@lifestraw.com.

How long of a "shelf life" does this item have? Can I pack it away unused and then dependably use it in an emergency that could be one or two years done the road? Thank you.

Asked by: DebORM
Our products do not have a shelf life. As long as this is cleaned and stored properly, it will last for 18,000 liters of water before it becomes clogged.

I recently started having issues with the tube attaching to the bag on the 12L Mission filter. The small blue, semi"U-shape" piece now just falls out of its home on the under side of the bag. I dont ever recall it doing this before.

Is it good for salt water?

Asked by: Annie
From my understanding it does not desalinization. It only filters our particulates, viruses, and bacteria

The website says that it filters 0,2 microns, but other sites say that virusfiltering should go down to 0,1, is this a big thing?

Asked by: Genn
Yes, I missed a zero, but does not some viruses get down to the 0.01 microns?

What filters does lifestraw mission require, and how could they be replaced(if possible)?

Asked by: Stacey k
It filters like 18000 liters don’t worry about changing it.  Tastes better than tap water after filtered.
